Stretch-induced contraction of intrafusal muscle in cat muscle spindle.

چکیده
Measurements of tension, stiffness, and sarcomere length of intrafusal muscle during ramp stretch of isolated muscle spindles have revealed a stretch-induced contraction of the bag1 fiber. This behavior can account for the very high sensitivity of primary endings to stretch as well as the enhanced sensitivity evoked by dynamic fusimotor stimulation.

The efferent regulation of the muscle spindle in the frog.
(With Eleven Text-figures) Matthews's experiments (1931a, b) have established that the muscle spindle of the frog contains a sense organ which responds to stretch and ceases to respond when the surrounding muscle fibres shorten. In addition, the spindle is known to possess a motor supply of its own, a bundle of small striated 'intrafusal' muscle fibres. These fibres run through the spindle caps...
متن کاملEffect of intrafusal muscle mechanics on mammalian muscle spindle sensitivity.
Sensitivity differences between primary and secondary endings of mammalian muscle spindles under various conditions of stretch and fusimotor activation may be due to differences in their respective mechanoelectric transducers or to mechanical properties of the intrafusal muscle supporting those endings. This study of isolated cat muscle spindles examines the strain in individual intrafusal musc...
متن کاملThe physiology of a lepidopteran muscle receptor. II. The function of the receptor muscle.
One of the chief points of interest in muscle receptors generally is the ability which they confer on the C.N.S. to change the effective sensitivity of peripheral sensing elements which supply information concerning mechanical events. Physiological evidence indicating such efferent bias of stretch receptors was provided for cat muscle spindles by Leksell (1945). He found that stimulation of the...
متن کاملTranscriptional regulation of myotube fate specification and intrafusal muscle fiber morphogenesis
Vertebrate muscle spindle stretch receptors are important for limb position sensation (proprioception) and stretch reflexes. The structurally complex stretch receptor arises from a single myotube, which is transformed into multiple intrafusal muscle fibers by sensory axon-dependent signal transduction that alters gene expression in the contacted myotubes. The sensory-derived signal transduction...
متن کاملCentrioles in Intrafusal Muscle Fibers
Centrioles are generally considered to be involved in cell division and are also related to the differentiation of cilia and flagella . Most skeletal muscle contains stretch receptors called muscle spindles consisting of a bundle of small (intrafusal) muscle fibers which are innervated by both sensory and motor nerves . The fine structure of muscle spindles in a variety of species from amphibia...
